Participants may enroll in a maximum of one class per season (fall).
The participant's age is calculated by the session start date.
If you are unsure what level to register your child for, please call the Berlin Area School District Continuing Education & Recreation Program at (920) 361-2004 ext. 3057 and we will try to assist you. If you have taken lessons elsewhere, please provide us with that information on your registration form.
If you will miss the first scheduled day of class, you MUST notify the Berlin Area School District Continuing Education & Recreation Program at (920) 361-2004 ext. 3057 prior to the first day!
Registrations are NOT accepted at the pool site.
The Berlin Area School District Continuing Education & Recreation Program Swimming Lesson Classes will be held at Miller Natatorium, with access to the pool through Door #4.

NOTE: Pool temperature and maintenance is regulated by the Berlin Area School District and not the instructors. The water temperature is maintained as best as possible between 78-80 degrees, which is within state health code standards. Please keep this in mind when attending our classes.
Parent/Child
- This class is for the child who has never taken lessons before, is afraid of the water, cannot put his/her face in the water, or hold their breath and needs parental assistance. Beginner swimming skills are introduced.
- An adult must attend and participate in this class with the child.
- Requirements: Must be six months to three years old

Preschool Ages 3 - 4 Only
- Formally Level I: Water Exploration
- For the child who has not had formal swim lessons but would be comfortable in the water without parent assistance. Skills learned will include kicking, floating, submersion and more.
- Requirements: Must be three or four years old

Beginner 1 - Intro to Basics
- Formally Level II: Frogs
- This class is for the child who enjoys submersion, is comfortable on their back in the water and actively uses their arms and legs to move in the water. All basic skills for swimming on front and back are taught.
- Requirements: At least five years old OR have passed "Preschool Ages 3-4 Class" if ages four OR formally "Level I: Water Exploration"

Beginner 2 - Swimming Fundamentals
- Formally Level II: Guppies and Minnows
- All basic skills for swimming on front and back are taught. Students will work on completing skills independently.
- Required: Passing of "Beginner 1 - Intro to Basics" OR formally "Level II: Frogs"

Advanced 3
- Formerly Level II: Sharks
- Students will work in deep water, begin diving, perform the front and back crawl strokes, and is ready to learn the elementary back stroke.
- Requirements: Passing of "Beginner 2 - Swimming Fundamentals" OR formally "Guppies" or "Minnows"

Advanced 4
- Formerly Level III: Stroke Development and Level IV: Stroke Improvement
- This level works to strengthen all strokes. Breaststroke, sidestroke, butterfly and turning are introduced. Begin endurance work.
- Requirements: Passing of "Advanced 3" OR formerly "Level II: Sharks"

Swimmer 5
- Formerly Level V: Stroke Refinement
- This level continues to strengthen all strokes and refine proper techniques.
- Requirements: Passing of "Advanced 4" OR formerly "Level III: Stroke Development" OR "Level IV: Stroke Development"

Swimmer 6
- Formerly Level VI
- This level works to perfect all strokes, turns and dives. Four types of turns are taught.
- Requirements: Passing of "Swimmer 5" OR formerly "Level V: Stroke Refinement"

Individual Private Lessons
- Individual private lessons are for those who learn best with one-on-one attention and instruction. These lessons are between one swimmer and one instructor only.
- This is intended for one participant. If you wish to have two members of the same family enrolled in this class, please call (920) 361-2004 ext. 3053 for further details.
- Classes are one week, Monday through Thursday, and 30 minutes.
- There are no age restrictions to individual private lessons. Adults are encouraged to register as well as children.
